FAQs
QC Metal Fab Customer Questions & Concerns
.
What will QCMF do if the finished product is warped, has inconsistent thickness, and/or shows signs of rust on the material?
Great question. At QCMF, our goal is simple: deliver a finished product that matches your exact specifications, every time. A critical part of achieving that is using only high-quality materials.
We exclusively fabricate with materials produced in the United States. Unlike some competitors who rely on secondary or imported materials with uncertain quality, QCMF uses only prime-grade materials. These materials are flat, within specification, and fully certified, ensuring consistency and reliability from the start.
Material certification is a key part of our process. For example, our steel suppliers provide access to a digital certification system that allows us to verify the exact chemical composition and properties of every order. This level of traceability is an important distinction between QCMF and other fabricators, and it reinforces our commitment to transparency. A piece of steel may look the same at a glance, but certification confirms whether it meets prime-grade standards or falls short.
Using certified, prime-grade materials leads to better performance throughout the entire fabrication process. It supports tighter laser cutting tolerances, cleaner punching, more precise CNC forming, and consistent bending results. Simply put, the quality of the material directly impacts the quality of the final product.
By sourcing from trusted U.S. mills and maintaining strict material standards, QCMF delivers the consistency, precision, and performance our customers expect.
What will QCMF do if a finished product is shipped late or there is a problem with the shipment?
On-time delivery is non-negotiable. No matter how well a product is fabricated or how high the material quality is, a missed deadline impacts your operation. At QCMF, we treat delivery timelines with the same level of precision as the fabrication process itself.
Every project begins in our advanced digital scheduling system. We input your specifications upfront to define scope, identify required materials, and align production with our current capacity. This allows us to set realistic timelines and avoid conflicts before they become problems.
Our electronic bill of materials system gives us complete visibility into what each job requires. By understanding material needs and lead times early, we can plan ahead, secure materials efficiently, and reduce the risk of delays during production.
Execution is backed by an experienced team across operations, engineering, and support. They ensure the right materials are sourced, processes are followed correctly, and each phase of production stays on schedule.
We also maintain control through final delivery. QCMF operates its own fleet of trucks, so your product is handled by our team from start to finish. This reduces dependency on third parties, minimizes transit risks, and helps ensure your order arrives safely and on time.
From order intake to delivery, QCMF manages every step with accountability and precision. The result is a dependable process and the confidence that your project will be completed and delivered as promised.
What will QCMF do if the finished product is out of specification or doesn't match expectations?
At QCMF, every product we deliver, regardless of size, material, or application, is built to meet your exact specifications. We go beyond simply fabricating parts. We act as a partner in your operation, bringing experience and insight to every project.
Rather than taking a “cut and ship” approach, we collaborate with you to ensure the best possible outcome. For example, if a customer in the RV industry needs a specific hinge for an engine compartment, we apply our decades of combined fabrication experience to recommend options that may improve fit, reduce cost, and simplify installation. The goal is not just to produce a part, but to deliver the right part for your application.
Quality is reinforced throughout the production process. During fabrication, we use a two-person quality control system. The machine operator reviews the initial run with a supervisor or senior machinist to confirm the part meets specifications, aligns with the design, and is being produced correctly. This added layer of oversight helps catch issues early and ensures consistency across the full run.
Whether the job involves prime-grade steel plate or a fully custom fabrication, QCMF is committed to getting it right. That means delivering parts that meet your requirements, stay on schedule, and align with your budget.
Does QCMF provide engineering and/or design support?
Yes. One of the key advantages of working with QCMF is our experienced materials engineering and product design support team. When customers come to us with a concept, design, or production challenge, we apply decades of custom metal fabrication expertise to develop practical, high-performing solutions.
Our engineering and design teams work closely together to ensure you not only get what you asked for, but also benefit from recommendations that can improve performance, reduce costs, or simplify manufacturing. The result is a product that is optimized for both function and efficiency.
Our people are at the core of everything we do. We invest in skilled professionals across engineering, design, programming, machining, and welding because their expertise directly impacts the quality of your final product. When our team is well-trained, engaged, and focused, our customers see the difference in consistency, precision, and reliability.
We also maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized facility to support high-quality production standards. Whether your project requires TIG welding, MIG welding, laser cutting, punching, or press brake forming, our team has the experience and capability to deliver.
At QCMF, you are supported by a knowledgeable team that is committed to producing the best possible outcome for your project.
Quotes take too long to receive; what can QCMF do to prevent this?
We strive to always be responsive to our customer's needs and estimating and quoting are an important part of providing great customer service. We know we only get one chance to make a good first impression, so when a customer comes to QCMF for a uoate, we match them with one of our highly qualified estimators (with a combined 60+ years of experience!) to go over the project. From design suggestions, material recommendations, and engineering support and shipping, the entire project will be quoted so there are no surprises.
We use the Shoptech E2 Shop System enterprise resource planning software to track all quotes as well as inventory processing, accounting, and operator hours. This system allows for on-demand reviews of the project as it moves through each phase of completion. The electronically generated quote will be emailed to the customer as soon as it's complete for quick review and approval. The quote includes all design aspects, a deatiled bill of material, and delivery time. Most other shops don't include a delivery time, but because we handle the shipping in house, our customers can have all of these steps help shave time off the project - to save our customers time and money.
The product is overprices; what can QCMF do to keep product costs down?
We understand that price is always a key factor when making a purchasing decision. At QCMF, we believe it is just as important to understand what you are getting for that price.
There are low-cost fabrication options in the market, but those prices often come with trade-offs. Key questions to consider include:
- Are the materials certified and of consistent quality?
- Will the finished product perform reliably in its intended application?
- Could lower-quality materials or fabrication lead to premature wear, corrosion, or failure?
- Will a lower upfront cost result in higher long-term expenses?
At QCMF, we position ourselves as a true project partner. We take the time to walk you through every aspect of your project, including scheduling, materials, fabrication, shipping, and billing, so there are no surprises along the way.
We source prime-grade materials, including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and copper, from competitive U.S.-based mills. Our experienced team understands how to balance cost efficiency with performance, ensuring your project is completed correctly, on time, and within budget. We also use advanced scheduling and project management systems to maintain accuracy and consistency throughout the process.
One of the key ways we deliver value is through what we call “delivered pricing.” Your quote includes every step, from design and materials to fabrication and final delivery. There are no hidden fees, no unexpected shipping costs, and no last-minute changes.
Just as importantly, you will know your delivery timeline upfront. This allows you to plan with confidence, avoid disruptions, and keep your own operations running smoothly.
The result is a transparent process, predictable costs, and the peace of mind that your project will be completed as promised.
I need a project done as soon as possible; what can QCMF do to help manage project deadlines?
